(I think the SuSE manuals are the best). Unless you're already familiar with at least some flavor of Unix, I'd personally recommend getting a book on Linux. I got RH8.0 with a book, and although it's maddening silent on some of the errors I got in installation, etc, it's still invaluable for referring to when you're trying to remember how to put a process into the background, or some obscure vi command (aren't they all) or whatever.
