John, I don't know squat about W2000 and didn't keep a copy of your original msg, but in NT4.0, you can access "environmental variables" through the control panel. I seem to recall that some of them will not appear in the registry. Also recall that you must be sure you're logged in with "Administrator" privileges before making changes, or you may not see them next time around. You probably knew all that.
