The GPL seems very ambiguous about this. It says: "the output from the Program is covered only if its contents constitute a work based on the Program (independent of having been made by running the Program). Whether that is true depends on what the Program does." Obviously, the only work that could create itself or something largely based on itself is a compiler (or worm, virri and similiar nasties), so certainly gcc is eligible in this regard. -- Nic (RedWord)Smith
