Greetings / Benchmarks

Greetings Everyone! I just recently downloaded Euphoria and have been gleefully messing about with it. In reading Jason Leit's thread on benchmarks, I began to wonder if anyone has tried longer benchmarks between C/C++ and Euphoria. From my understanding, Euphoria has very robust garbage collection. Would this help even out the speed difference between C and Euphoria in longer applications where poor memory collection would cause losses in the performance of C? I am guess that it would not, but one can always hope. ;) BTW Jason - on a funny side note, I am a 1/2 Belgian living in Canada. :) My father was a Belgian national whose parents moved to Canada when he was a child.
