I found a copy of the libCURL dll's with SSL support included on 
my HDD.  Let me know if you want a copy.

I agree, I have no idea about SSL and certificates either.  
I don't really have the time or energy to look into it at the moment.

I'll see if I can find some time this weekend to have a peek at what
might be required.
