[off-topic] reassign keys

Does anyone know how to cause keys on the keyboard to be reassigned so they
work differently? (Win98 system).   I am finding it somewhat easier to
follow long threads here by using the keypad (down-arrow in "subject" &
"enter" to open), rather than a (new) mouse, if only I could reassign the
keypad middle (5) key to mean "alt-F4" to close a message window.
