I think you should re-think the advisability of writing anything that runs 
in console mode, whether for DOS or Linux.  

DOS is dead, and the few people who enjoy using console programs on Linux 
probably will resent anything as 'futuristic' as a file chooser. They 
generally prefer typing -options on the command line.
