Detecting User Inactivity

Hi!

I need to detect user inactivity, the obvious way of doing this is to
monitor all mouse and keyboard events for the system and store this
last time one occurred. But this doesn't seem very elegant to me, it
wouldn't take account of other input devices for example...

Does anyone know if there are any api calls to find out how long the
user has been inactive? I assume windows must track this for the purpose of
showing the screensaver...
