Well, your idea would work, if the packaged data file were split into
several pieces.  The thing is, I don't use the 0.dat file from the original
distribution.  Instead, I basically have the Euphoria files in a folder, and
that folder, structure and all, is packaged.  When the installer opens the
data file, those folders, as I have them on my machine, are mirrored on the
user's machine, without the files for unwanted options.

I am hoping that when I'm done with the compiler, it will result in a much
smaller package file.  I've got a trick or two up my sleeve.

You can reduce this 3 meg if you'll prepare
the dummy 0.dat file, which is about 1.3 meg
now. All you need in this file are inner
file's names and very short standard
body of each dummy file.
So, to create and debug your installer,
first of all, force it to install dummy Eu.
Why not ?
If you want, I can try to make such
a trick with 0.dat of Eu 2.2 for you.
If Rob has no protests then ... 
But maybe I do not understand somewhat
well now.
