Re: Why some people have not upgraded

Hello again,

Vincent:
Yes, it pissed me off too to find out that v2.5 was going to parse
*much* slower than v2.4 ... i would have upgraded the day after it
came out if it wasnt for this slowdown.
Of course there's also some plus things to say, and i can name one...
the 'Source' code for v2.5 written in Euphoria. I've created a nice
debugger with this (doesnt have to be as fast opening source's). It's
also kept me busy studying it from time to time and i find it's very
interesting.
I guess i still cant help wishing Rob stuck with the C code and just
added functionality, and also provided the Eu 'Source' code.

I still plan to upgrade at some point though, because i've heard v2.5
exe's run faster and are smaller too. Thing is, i really like the idea
of using a text file to program and not having to compile anything before
you test it (exw files). I'd have to bind many of the programs i use
now in order to have them open up at the speed i need if i used v2.5
for all of my programs. A lot of them are quite long with many includes,
and they just seem to be getting longer and longer because im starting
to put functionality i had in several programs into one so i can open one
and use many of the functions.

Longer parse time means a longer delay when you are testing a program.
I've helped this to some extent with my debugger, but still if it picks
up an early error you have to abort and start over again.

Maybe 2.6 will parse faster?

Take care,
Al

And, good luck with your Euphoria programming!
