I had used Thunderbird 1.0.2 on Windows with the following settings: - Main menu: View > Text of messages > Original HTML - RSS options: [v] Show summary instead of whole page I just tested it again. When I get the RSS feed <http://www.listfilter.com/EUforum/messages_full.xml>, smiley pictures in messages are displayed correctly for the moment. But after closing Thunderbird and re-starting it, they are not displayed any more (the PC is offline then). It then looks like this: <http://www.rapideuphoria.com/uploads/tb_rss_smiley.png> As you already wrote (below), Thunderbird can convert colon dash right-paren to smiley pictures itself. That seems to work also when the PC is offline. > I look forward to seeing your new RSS reader. Thanks. Unfortunately, it will take some time until the first release. This is not only because the upcoming holidays, but also because I encountered problems with the XML library EEBAX. ( Thomas Parslow, did you get my mails? Please reply. ) I have started writing my own XML parser now. This seems to be not too hard, but before a public release, I'll read the XML specification, and then I'll probably have to apply some changes. I also haven't read an RSS specification until now. All this will take some time. > I guess you don't handle full HTML. Just text. Well, it's not a full blown RSS reader, just a RRS-to-mail converter. It handles full HTML. What the user will see, of course depends on the mail client (or other program) s/he uses for viewing, and on the chosen settings. The program also has the option to convert HTML to plain text, since this is what many people prefer in e-mail. In this case, any HTML img tag is converted to the text "[img]". > Maybe you can convert the smiley URL back to colon dash right-paren. Interesting idea, thanks! I could change the HTML-to-text converter, so that instead of "[img]", the output would be e.g. "[happy.gif]". This is more meaningful anyway. Additionally, in the section of the INI file that is related to the concerning RSS feed, there could be a line such as happy.gif = [1] > But first let's see how other RSS readers handle it. OK. I'm sorry for being a little impatient. > jxliv7 wrote: >> One of the things that appeals to me about the Euphoria forum is the >> maturity. >> It makes this forum about code seem professional. >> >> I equate smily faces of any sort with newbees and immaturity. Regards, Juergen [1] More challenging would be to properly implement something like the following: |\ _,,,---,,_ cat.gif = /,`.-'`' -. ;-;;,_ |,4- ) )-,_..;\ ( `'-' '---''(_/--' `-'\_) -- Have you read a good program lately?
