The case of the DOS edition of Euphoria is different - it's not the copyright restrictions but the lack of the right kind of low level knowledge that prevents the current devs and the current users of euid/ex.exe from being able to keep it going. This is a much better situtation, as someone might one day come along who can breathe it back to life (whereas to revive OS/2, someone would have to right buy out the various legal rights from M$ and IBM and who knows who else).

I have the ability to maintain a DOS edition of Euphoria, but I don't want to do that. I have no interest in supporting something that I think is a pointless exercise. I used to code DOS applications using assembler and BIOS calls (official and unofficial), and I've written plenty of TSRs and device drivers. I think I still have the full source code for the IBM-DOS bios.

But anyhow, I'm no longer sure about what it is you are talking of. Are we talking about an edition of Euphoria that runs and can be used to develop applications that run on MS-DOS? Or are you talking about developing a version of MS-DOS in Euphoria - an Euphoria-coded operating system?

I'm confused because MS-DOS is copyrighted, as is OS/2 and AmigaDOS etc etc etc ... but what has that got to do with developing an Edition of Euphoria to run on those platforms. One doesn't need to "buy out the various legal rights" in order to run those operating systems nor to develop applications that run on them - and Euphoria is just an application from that point of view.

So again I ask, is there any real need for an edition of Euphoria (v4+) that runs on the (or any) DOS operating system? Anyone?

Now if someone wanted to port Euphoria to AmigaDOS I might be interested because I'm still in love with that opsys, even though almost no-one uses it anymore.
