This looks like it was a case of a misplaced demo. It has since been fixed in the active branches.

If the demos use the one in std/machine.e then every time you use older code you will have edit the code.
But they are 4.xx demos. 4.xx demos should use 4.xx includes, and 3.11 demos should use 3.11 includes.
