thanks, that will probably help. i can see one thing i was doing wrong for a start.

i'd clone then

hg update -r xxxx:yyyyyyyyyyy clean

to switch to a different changeset

i borked my sd card as well just now so i'm building a new one and i'll try the above. it might be easier to track things down with a clean sd card so i'm not too peeved with myself for trashing this one.
