Did not have cifs-utilities installed.. took care of that but stll unable to mount the shares using server_name/share.. recieve an error message that states that cifs has not implemented URL usage..

However, cifs mounts just fine if use machine IP/share ..

Used nmap to get the IP's, but a problem could occur if one of the networked machines is rebooted and it is assigned different IP address.

But the Fat Lady has yet to sing...
