This error happens with eui and euiw of v4.1.0.Nov28 on winxp.

junk = dir(writefilename) -- also returns -1

But the file IS there, visable and available in dosbox and in Explorer, accessable by dos and win32 text editors.

Another possibility - perhaps you've unearthed some kind of sequence corruption bug? Such that writefilename gets mangled into something that doesn't exist?
