A note on moderation

Hi

A recent thread raised the subject of moderators on the forum. I would just like to express my feelings on what a moderator should be, and how I react on the forum.

A moderator does not have admin rights.

We are not here to police what people say.

I have never used my moderator powers - I have taken a very hands off approach.

My personal guidelines (and please add / discuss these if you so wish) are

  • Flame wars
  • Trolling
  • Personal insults
  • Poliitically incorrect or inflammatory statements (though I think the whole subjuct of political correctness is a crock, I can understand how people can be offended by remarks, either off the cuff or intentional - I know, I have made some unguarded comments in my time)

I'm not here to curtail free speech, or interfere in heated discussions simply because I don't like what I'm reading. However, If you feel that I am rather too passive, then please let me know.

Chris
