B+AD4-AREN'T BBS's OBSOLETE ??? With the internet you don't need to make long
B+AD4-distance phone calls.

I use a (Portland) local BBS. I don't think that they are obsolete.

I+AD4-If you really want a BBS, then you need:
I+AD4-several phone lines
I+AD4-several modems
I+AD4-a multi-port serial card (+ACQAJA-)
I+AD4-software to run the bbs
I+AD4-software to manage the modems.
I+AD4-much time to keep it going.
I+AD4-On the other hand, you can run a web server / news server / mail server /
ftp
I+AD4-site with 1 modem and an ISP. Many people can connect at the +ACI-same
time+ACI-.
I+AD4-This can be done with Windows, but it's much easier with Linux.
I+AD4-The only difficulty is getting a permanent (static) Internet address.
Some
I+AD4-ISP's will supply one, maybe at extra cost. You have to ask.

BTW, Irv, I believe that it only has 1 line that is probably cheaper than
setting up for internet because they are only charged for outgoing calls.

Just like the good old days+ACE-
It's kinda like having a mailing list with less than 20 active users.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic . . .
