i would like to design a role playing game.need some help on how to start
With fancy graphics? - Start with 4 years of college.
No, I'm not joking. This is serious stuff, pretty complicated to do right.
Hi mexony,
I have an idea for a role-playing game that just might suit you.. The idea is to role-play a car driver (gothic/fantasy themes are too overrated these days). The plot is straightforward - just get from one end of a piece of road to the other in under a certain time. Gameplay is similarly simple: left, right, accelerate, brake.
For starters, the platform can be Windows (so we can all enjoy playing it in our spare time at work) but written in such a way as to make it easy to port. Rather than grapple with some graphics library that claims to be simple but is NOT, why not use Arwen? Oh sure, there is no sound support (ATM) and the bitmap library is grossly simple but I think that you could go a long way with it - just remember "less is more".
Don't worry, you won't have to attend 4 years of college to learn and understand the necessary math - just copy the way too easy formulas of Psuedo 3D. An important key to the success of this project will be the (2D) artwork in these areas:
1) Sky - background colour, slowly moving clouds.
2) Distant horizon - forest covered hills, mountain ranges.
3) local features - trees, plants, other fixtures near or along the road
4) Road
Now, please don't think that I'm just making fun of you. If you're serious about this, as an inducement I'll write a resource compiler/viewer for Arwen (which will convert bitmaps into include files).
