Forked from Re: Has Jeremy finally left the buiding?
I notice that on at least one of my computers here, the forum no longer shows the star that indicates new, unread posts in a thread; is that an artifact of the change to another server, or is it maybe some problem I have here?
I messed that up this morning, I believe. The css for that stuff is kind of tricky, and while what I put seems OK, not all browsers like it that way. Also, the way we display the star is something that most browsers seem to be phasing out due to security concerns. Google Chrome, at least, already has.

I'm using IE8 on this 'puter.
But while I'm at it, I've wondered if the forum couldn't have a new feature whereby clicking on a message thread would auto-jump to the post just after the last post previously read by the reader.
This would require a sort of statistical data collection that I believe is not currently happening at openeuphoria.org. Let me explain. Your browser knows where you have been and likely when as well. However, openeuphoria.org likely does not timestamp the last time every visitor visits a page. Or in your a simply case related your question. Just storing the last thing you viewed. I doubt much of any statistical data is stored. So, you want openeuphoria to be a little more like Big Brother and record every time you visit any page so they can sell that information to line their pockets. Oh wait. They wouldn't do that. It would go to better Euphoria. eh, I'll calmly step away from the mic and off the podium now.

It's likely I'm not understanding, but it doesn't seem to me that any kind of any such "statistical data collection" would in any way be necessary; I would think the (previously) working "star" system could simply be expanded, no?
It already "knows" IF a thread has posts in it that "YOU" haven't yet looked at, so all it would have to add is the ability to "know" WHICH was the LAST post in such a thread which WAS read. Then it would/could jump to the NEXT post after that in that thread when you click on the thread title.
So a relevant question might be: exactly HOW does the (previously) working "star" system work?
