Ok, I'll tell you what I had and what I did.
NTFS Pro v3.12 wouldn't mount the broken partition.
My Windows XP computer told me the drive needed formatted.
Knoppix (a linux distro) let me copy nearly all the files from the
broken NTFS to my fully functional WinXP drive running on
FAT32.

I still suspect that I could have recovered the system but...
The customer only wanted a couple of files retrieved.
Less than 5 meg of data. :/  I didn't have time to attempt
recovery of the system. :(  It would have been nice to know
if I could have and if so, how to do so.
