The file associations have nothing to do with it because in my tests, I either run exw.exe from a command prompt, or with a hotkey in my text editor set to run exw.exe, and you'll note in my example that I said to rename it "*.ew", not "*.ex".
As to using include files vs. machine_proc and machine_func, sorry for the unreadability, but that's why I explained the code lines. Since even the least little things affect the outcome, I was attempting to reduce the problem to as simple as possible. My next example, which I'll post soon, is even simpler, and will include just one hacked allocate() function.
