Linux Users ...... newbie needs help

Hello,
I would like to print my programs - hard copy.
Using Ubuntu 8.04.
But,
Printer is recognised but will not print the file .
Just sits How do I get my files printed . ?
Googled.
Done the add printer.
As I said above ........ rcognised.
No Print .
Cables connected.
Printer is epson stylus color 640.
Any help.
