Re: An alternative to DOS emulation

The fundamental problem wasn't that the DOS graphic routines weren't supported, but that a call to puts(1, ..) or the like resulted in DOS graphics called for ex.exe when compiled with the OpenWatcom libraries.

The reason for this appears to be quite complex. It has nothing to do with Eu, but rather with OpenWatcom itself, and is not easy to workaround from inside of ex.exe (although the EUVISTA environment variable now exists for this very purpose, it currently doesn't do more than the bare minimum required to run ec.exe).

The EUPHORIA DOS32 programs use graphics routines that are not available. It has been said it is better to emulate with some kind of TSR/VideoFrame converter emulator.

I was wondering though. Maybe it wouldn't be too hard to emulate those routines at the API level? That is to say there are DOS32 video functions that could be wrapped into calls to wx. Maybe this would be a way to keep DOS32 programs alive in Vista.

How many people use EUPHORIA DOS32 programs?
