tar.tar ??

The file name is supposed to be:
dmak.tar.gz

With Linux, it downloads correctly, as:
dmak.tar.gz

With Windows (I am told, I don't use Windows for modeming), it downloads as:
dmak.tar.tar
And WinZip can't unzip it.

I use:
tar cvzf dmak.tar.gz dmak
to package it.

What is happening?

What is the correct way to package a bunch of files using Linux?
