hi EveryOne, recently i heard open source was being considered. i believe open source would cause too many versions to be created. i think one version is much better at any one time. i don't know how it would be implemented but an idea simmering in my head is a common direction be set by using a flowchart(?). it would show the direction euphoria will be headed for, what needs to be done yet ie: routines, sections, etc. or what has been done already. code writers would access it online to view or login as contributor. other people would see who is logged to write that portion of code or library. ideas could be submitted to that person (possibly group). that person would be in charge of that improvement until it was done. that person would delegate writing of portions of code too. this way no one person is overwhelmed by a part of the project and its associated code writing. Rob, thanks for starting Euphoria. i like it. and thanks for everyones contributions. rudy

I have to agree here. Given then large number of good suggestions for improvements that pass thru here, if source were available no doubt there would soon be a dozen versions of Euphoria, each implementing some, but not all of the improvements. The fragmentation would make it difficult to write a program that would run on all or most of these versions. > i don't know how it would be implemented but an idea simmering in my > head is a common direction be set by using a flowchart(?). <snip> Honestly, I think the task of managing a project like that would be more time-consuming than just writing the code all by one's self - as Rob has been doing. One thing we have to congratulate Rob on is the lack of real bugs in his code. I, for one, don't think that would be true if several people were working on it. Maybe what we need to do is find a way for Rob to devote more time to the language. Any ideas? > Rob, thanks for starting Euphoria. i like it. > and thanks for everyones contributions. Regards, Irv

I'll third that (not an open source Euphoria, that is). I like Rob's idea of selling or licensing out some of the source for development, though. That will open up a lot of possibilities. But open source? Tell you what, if you want an open source Euphoria, write one yourself. But at an incredibly reasonable $59 for the full version on all three platforms, I have no problem with it not being open source. --On Monday, April 30, 2001 8:53 AM -0500 Irv Mullins <irvm at ellijay.com> wrote: > > > > > On Mon, 30 Apr 2001, rudy toews wrote: > >> hi EveryOne, >> recently i heard open source was being considered. >> i believe open source would cause too many versions to be created. >> i think one version is much better at any one time. > > I have to agree here.
