1. Euphoria users sure are helpful

Hello all.

Thank you again for all of the great help.

I can now run Euphoria programs from the DOS prompt! I don't know much about
DOS (a victim of the windows generation, you might say) and I was trying
unsuccessfully to cd\euphoria and then cd\demo. Thanks to your help I
instead successfully cd\euphoria\demo. Thank you all for your help in that
matter.

Now then, is there a way to run programs other then from the DOS prompt?

I still cannot run programs using EXW. Any suggestions?

Finally, how do you run programs that you are working on in the editor?
There is no command to do so (such as Run, Execute, etc.) that I can find.

Thank you for your help and patience. I can think of a few other languages
which the users of are not so friendly!;)

I can't say "You're welcome!", because I didn't help.

Of course. In folder options, switch to the file extentions tab,
and add the euphorian types "ex" and "exw". Forgot a lot about
Windows though. Someone else know the exact procedure?

> I still cannot run programs using EXW. Any suggestions?

Either use the method above, or use the steps you do to run a dos program,
and then type "exw" instead of "ex", i.e. "exw animal.ex" instead of
"ex animal.ex", if you want to run animal.ex with exw.

Are you sure you're using ed? If you are, try this:
Press ESC, then Press "e". It should run.

hit ESC, then E, program will run.
ESC brings up the simple menu on the top line of the editor.

Have a look at:

http://www.rapideuphoria.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?keywords=registry+Mathew+Hounsell

the top 2 items are registry modifications for Euphoria, they'll allow
you run euphoria programs from windows (without the dos shell),

Also, I'll just put in my opinion about the best editor for Euphoria
(in windows anyway): TextPad (www.textpad.com), *very* customizable
and you can get syntax highlighting (so it colors the key words and
stuff like that) from:

http://www.rapideuphoria.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?keywords=textpad

It can also be setup so that you can run your programs from within the
editor, I haven't done this (most of the time I'm not working on the
file I want to run) but it should be ez enough...

Assuming that you're using the ED editor, then if your program extention =
is .EX then, when you press ESC to access the menu, the option Ex should =
appear, press the E and the editor will run your program.

I also use TextPad (thanks Kat !) and it is an excellent editor. It does
take
a little setting up though so for now I would recommend MEdit which requires
absolutely no setting up to work perfectly with Euphoria.

David, download MEdit from the following link.....

http://www.troja.freeserve.co.uk/freestuf.htm

Download "MEdit" (which is at the top of the page) not "Euphoria Editor"
(which is further down the page and is limited to 64K files).

Unzip MEdit to a directory of your choice (you can put it wherever you like.
Mine is on a completely different partition).

Now you simply need to load whatever code you would like to run (say the
"animal.ex" demo) into MEdit and you will see it nicely colour highlighted.
Select "Run" from the "Run" menu and away you go.

If you have the registered version of Euphoria, you can also bind your
program into an executable direct from MEdit.

Perhaps if Mike is reading the list, he would consider adding the option to
translate / compile from MEdit too?

Good luck with it.

Mark
