1. Forum not sending posts to Topica?
Rob,
Is the forum no longer sending posts to Topica
for distribution as email?
I haven't gotten any forum posts in my email since June 7th.
Anyone else having this happen? Probably you won't see this
in your email if you are :(

But I like getting the posts via email, for these reasons:
1. I can click on <Subject> & follow a thread fairly easily, usually;
2. By saving posts, I have an onsite database I can search fairly easily;
3. I have scripting turned off for security, & although I have

then allow scripts to be run from anything from that site, I keep
getting prompt messages, "do you want to run scripts from this site"
for every post I read on the forum. That's a bit tedious.

Topica recently stopped sending you messages at Prodigy
because Prodigy started bouncing Topica messages,
thinking they were spam I guess. I've now re-enabled your
address but it's likely to happen again.

When you post, you actually run scripts on both ListFilter.com
and RapidEuphoria.com (login/password with cookie).
Maybe you need to increase the trust level for
RapidEuphoria.com as well.

... and now that we have Google ads, maybe you need
to allow scripts from google.com (or googlesyndication.com).

Thanks Rob, it was the googlesyndication.com one that was messing me up,
as I already had RapidEuphoria.com also listed as trusted site.

Keep in mind site have been hacked, and trusted scripts replaced with
aggressive damaging ones. If java/javascript/VB/VBscripts need to be used
on a page, perhaps a better webpage coder should be sought.

Yeah, in the back of my mind that was/is bothering me. That's why I was
using different "permissions" for trusted vs other sites in the first
place.

I can see rapideuphoria.com being set as trusted.
but I wouldn't do the same for topica or google.
Scripting isn't inherently evil. However, it can be rather dagerous.

Honestly, when I first discovered Euphoria, I was surprised to see that
there was no Web-based forum. Most languages out there have a
well-established system like the excellent phpBB; communication in such an
environment is extremely efficient (not to mention well-organized). I
keep
silently wishing that RDS would "officially" launch a Web forum like phpBB
to supplement this list. I believe it could even be set up to
function
as a mailing list on the back end, sending posts made on the Web interface
to the list, and vice-versa -- much like what we have now, but more
robust.
I think the list does a pretty good job of being web-based since it is
searchable via the web. Kind of flakey though.. Could use something
better
and more reliable. Though I think it is already a lot better than it was.
Besides. How much are you and me paying for this? I haven't
registered in
over a year. A 2nd version is due out. I think my last registered
version
was 2.2
or 2.3.
Note that I'm not trying to demean the work that Rob and Junko have done;
I
think the system we have now is the best that EUforum has had. A system
like phpBB would simply take away the burden of developing and maintaining
a
homemade interface, while requiring minimal administration (as delegated
among forum moderators).
I don't know anything about this phpBB thing. I just don't like not being
able to
store the messages in a local searchable format. My Email.
PS: I read something about Gmail. A google email thing that gives 1
Gigabyte
of email storage space. It is sort of public though... They do scan your
mail.
Like that is any kind of surprise.

My tuppenceworth on the email vs web argument:
Personal preference is personal preference, neither right nor wrong.
I use my email client for many other things besides reading Euforum.
If I lose email, I'll (remember to) log in once every few days, then
once a fortnight, then get overfaced, and probably end up quitting.
