1. Oracle DB for $5K?

Can anybody explain to me how Oracle can justify charging $5K for their
"Oracle Standard Edition One," one-processor server database?

Because they wasted too much time developing it.

Well, sure... that's how they suck you in, and once you're dependent on
them, WHAMMO!!!! Pay up or die!!!!

True. True.

> I wonder how many people think freeware is crap.

Good question.

For me, considering my primary PC is now FreeBSD (freeware), Mozilla Browser
(freeware) Mozilla Mail (freeware), XMMS, XFCE (window manager), etc... you
can see that 99% of my deskware is freeware... and I don't think any of it
is crap. The only thing I've paid for (well, not the FreeBSD version, yet,
but soon!!!) is EUPHORIA. It's cheap, but it's AWESOME!!!! :)

Anyway, my two cents. Can I have my change?

hehe! You geek. But that's a good thing.

However, with the latest enhancements I've made to database.e (to facilitate
relationality) and the Myracle RDMS I created to manage EDS databases,
Oracle's behind-time has been increased by 1/10th!!! MUHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!

(I told you it was the end of the work day.)

But a lot harder to use.
Oracle sent me an evaluation CD some time back, I tried it, but it was just
too complex for me to bother with.

My point was, with so many free, almost-as-powerful if not as powerful
databases available on the market, what foo- person- is going to
purchase a $5K database?!

I wasn't complaining for my sake.

That was a joke, of course (in the context of Oracle's target market). :)

I've always had a leaning toward PostgreSQL, but it seems MySQL might be
catching up, don't you think?
