++ Ext3 is a journaling filesystem (like NTFS)  Linux can run on many 
different filesystems, some better than others.  Some distros use an 
older fs Ext2.  Ext2 I do not believe is journaled.  Also alot of people 
user ReiserFs or XFS.  These are also journalled filesystems.

++  Both the typical desktops KDE & GNOME are alot like winxp, they both 
use a start menu and a similar taskbar.

++ Yes!  Irv wrote EuGtk which handles windows and all of your controls. 
 Its a wrapper for GTK which is a C gui library.  It does (as far as I 
can tell)  all the same stuff as win32lib though a bit differently, 
(differently, but still simply)
