1. Programming Languages...No Such Thing As The Best

I've watched with interest the debate regarding which programming language is better. I've come to the conclusion a lot of people have missed the point regarding programming languages, and that is the language is best where it suits you best. For example, take the resume thread we've seen here. While some companies will take a person who has learned Visual Basic over Euphoria, I can also tell you from experience they won't hire a Visual Basic programmer if s/he does not know anything about COBOL, RPG or CL. While these are old languages and have little or no graphics support, they are the most in demand in the IT field and will continue to be so for the next 10 to 20 years. I should know, as I am a programmer and use these languages in my job. Where employment is concerned, these languages would be considered the best. Moving on to the argument over Windows support, I'd like to make a comment...if Windows API programming is considered modern programming, why do we still have a DOS command prompt? Because some programmers like myself do not like the API, do not find it is stable, and would prefer to write their own custom I/O interface over what Microsoft offers. RDS has realized this, which is why we have the DOS 32 bit version of Euphoria. Just as I won't fault someone who wants to use the API in programming, I should not be faulted for refusing to do so. We both are still programmers, and have chosen the language of our preference because it serves us best individually.
