1. NEIL:GameDemo.ex FPS
pete:
i finally remembered that i had DL'd your gamedemo to test,
and I made sure to make the corrections to gamedemo.ex to
prevent it from crashing, and then I ran it.
On this particular machine of mine (we have several here)
it's a p200mmx, diamond stealth 3D2000 with s3virge chipset,
48meg EDORAM, voodooII (not that that would matter for this,
but!, the display *does* pass thru... and it seems to
matter for other things, sometimes)
and with *or* without the special vesa2 dos driver
(latest vesa2 driver from diamond, vesa2.0VBE ver:3.18,similar
to univbe, but for my card), either way, it averaged
41-43FPS over the course of ~7 tests. testing was done
in a win95box, but with a highly tuned PIF that generally
benchmarks the same as if i rebooted into pure DOS through
the f8 menu.
the win95 drivers are the latest turbo drivers from diamond,
4.10.01.0069. once again, not sure that matters either...
there was nil flickering, and nada 'tearing'. quite stable.
updates were smooth, no lagging or burping. collision
detection was dead on for all directions, and sprite over
sprite over sprite layering was consistent, without bleed thru.
lastly, i noticed a sluggishness of the panning of the
screen/background/sprites. the spinning of the spinners
was blistering fast, and the reactiveness of the program
to input was instantaneous, but the _movement_
(up/down/left/right) of everything seemed......
i dunno... like i was driving a wet sponge. :)
the little guy would disappear, and the screen
struggled to pan fast enough to keep him on it...
and, no, i'm not slamming or anything, as i've said before,
in a previous post, your library for truecolor can do certain
drawing & screen flipping operations faster than any other
truecolor library currently out for euphoria.
i'm simply trying to give you the most precise 'betatest'
information i can... that's all... k? :)
take care, and care of, indeed --Hawke'
