I once converted an rpm for rpm (version 4 something iirc) to a tarball...
using that I was able to install rpm on an rpm-less mini-linux distro.

It did take some tweaking tho (and i had to run 'rpm --initdb' btw, w/o
that no other rpm commands will work--only run it once tho ... if you run
it on a machine that already has an rpm database, it might be wiped out).

An easier method might be to get an rpm2tgz program (script or binary) and use
that to convert the rpm you want to install. You lose dependancy information
that way tho.
