1. RE: system/system_exec problem

Hi Irv,

Have experimented, try this

#!/home/irv/euphoria/bin/exu
integer x
x = system_exec("ls > DIRECTORY&",0)

Next, use kde's explorer, drag the icon to the desktop, and select
link here

Works for me

2. RE: system/system_exec problem

Hi Irv

Oh well.

I use a very old computer for my linux developing, simply because I want
the program I'm writing to be as efficient as possible, and can pick up
any speed deficiencies better on a slow machine.

Wait for it - its a Compaq P133, with 32 Megs, running Suse 6.1, and kde
1 (I think), but I tend to use icewm because thats far less clunky on an
old machine.

I'll try it out on my super duper 2Ghz machine running suse 8.1, and kde
3, and will report back (it dual boots and is running xp atm - horses
for courses, Im not an os fanatic)

However, I have my suspicions as to what will happen, but won't pre empt
any results!

3. RE: system/system_exec problem

Hi Irv

Just tried that little program of yours on two other computers.

1. SuSE 7.1, Eu2.3, kde2.01, lots of ram and ghz. Works fine, does what
its supposed to, no hangs

2. SuSE 8.1, Eu2.3, kde3, even more ram and ghz. As above works fine,
but icon changes to a little cog ('I'm doing something') for 10-15 secs.
No extra processes seen, and no effect on rest of machine.

perhaps whats happening is that when Eu finishes, it asks you to hit
enter, but if there is nowhere to get enter from, it just sits and
waits, until Linux kills it (all by itself!)

Anyway, you solved it, just found it interesting is all - had a similar
problem with Kylix, but found it was for a different reason (will this
get auto filtered out now?) smile
