1. [win32lib] loadGifFromFile()
Hello,
recently, I needed to display .gif image in my win32lib program.
So I picked up gifload.e by Mike Carroll from the Archive and done small
wrapper around so I can call loadGifFromFile() just like loadBitmapFromFile().
If anyone is interested, I can clean it up and publish it.
btw Aren't there some copyrights/patents around GIF ?

Yes. AKAIK that was one of the reasons, why the PNG format was developed.

The patent on the LZW compression scheme expires June 20, this year.
It is still in effect for another year in Canada, Japan, the UK, Germany,
France and Italy.
So wait about 10 days, and then pur a disclaimer in your software that
it is not to be used by anyone in the countries mentioned above.

The GIF patent held by Unisys expires June 20th.

Only Rob could say for sure. If you could get it to the machine that has the
hostname of www.rapideuphoria.com w/o going thru any canada connections, RDS
might be able to host it directly (since, iirc, the server is actually a box
somewhere in the US).
(Obviously, even if RDS cant host the code itself on their servers, they can
post it in the archives with a link to your server--which (for those of you
who don't have full-time servers on the net) could simply be a tripod.com or
geocities.com web page.)
