1. in the poo with Mark Honnor's Game Demo

I must be particularly stupid today, but I can't
get it going. Killdemo hangs my PC beautifully:
Ctr-Alt-Del is dead, only the panic button reboots.
I have removed the TSRs one by one, short of the
CD-ROM driver, same result every time. All I get
to produce is a zero-length file with a random
name every time I try to run the demo. I am using
a Pentium-133 with 32M of RAM. The graphics card
is a Trio 64V+. And no, I am not running it at
a DOS prompt inside Windoze. Could it be because
I run DOS 5.5?

I think the problem is that it won't run on a machine

Mark should really test for that. I'll make a note on the Web page.

It runs nicely on my Pentium-150 with 32M of RAM, Trio 64V+ graphics card,
*and sound card*. It hangs badly on my 486 without sound card

Misbehaving programs that use poke, mem_copy etc. should be tested
using my "safe routines", a debug version of machine.e available from the
Recent Contributions page. The offending program must be in unshrouded source
form, but no changes are required to the source.

As one of the writers of the graphics engine used in Mark's demo, I agree
with Mr. Craig. Although we use assembly and extensive memory routines to
achieve the needed speed, the engine has been tested down to a 386 without
any noticable problems with other programs and with RDS's safe memory
routines.

It ran fine, if not a little slow, on my 486 with vga and NO sound card at all.

Just curious..what speed is your 486 and what kind of frame rate are you
getting?

I'm looking into ways to tweak up the speed of the engine..

And on my WfW 3.11 / DOS 6.0 486 WITH Soundblaster and VESA-compatible VGA
it crashed so hard that the Three-Finger Salute was useless. Crashed in a
DOS box under Windows; crashed in plain DOS too. This is the first
Euphoria program that actually crashed my WinBox. Have had a few refuse to
run under Windoze, but nary a full-blown crash till now.
