Im getting tired, nate. What was it I said again ? Remember ? Do I need to
repeat it ? Ok, I will do so with a more complete describtion of what
happens:
IRC is a network type, and mIRC a program to move around on such a network.
There are even Java applets quite capable of doing almost everything (except
sending files) that mIRC does.
I only pointed out, that eventhough it may work for you, EF-servers (and
many other) dont except connections from the other side of the ocean, when
there's also an EF-server here in Europe. They trace the connection down,
and disconnect you. I wouldnt know if that was the case, I havent tried it
myself, but my point was, that is quite possible it doesnt work for every
one *as reported*. And that it does work for you, proves silch; nothing;
zero. OK, nate ???
And I still advice to use irc.webmasters.com so the Euphoria room remains in
your or another euphorian hands for moderation, most other irc serves no
longer support nickserv and chanserv. Plus, they allow connections at any
port, this causing a great speed benefit, since half the people are trying
to get through at 6667, but 6663 for example will work as well, and is
usually much faster. (if the irc-server allows you to)
Plus, its only one server they never disconnect, and they have the best
java-interface on the web so also euphorians without mIRC could easily take
a look without the whole mIRC world blown over them. irc.webmasters.com and
if you want Ill look up the server info myself.

Sorry to have to say this, but I agree. Isn't there a point where =

Look you guys, just so we can stop eating up bandwidth on this issue,
here's the deal:
Nate, when you created the channel #euphoriaprogramming on EFNet, it was
there as long as someone was in it.
Martin, the reason you didn't see it in a channel listing (I'm assuming
that's what you did) was because it didn't exist.
And James, it worked fine for you because you probably did this:
/join #euphoriaprogramming
thereby creating that channel again.
See, channels can be created by users, and they are automatically
destroyed when no one is in them anymore. You can /join a channel, and if
it doesn't exist it is created for you.
I guess the only way to make a channel permanent is to have your own IRC
server...?

ON Dalnet you can make permanet channels if you redgister them!

Yes, there are still a few IRC's out there connected to a chanserv, that
keeps a record of those things *if* you want it to..
Just like there is a chanserv, there's also a nickserv.. people can use your
*registered* nick when you're not online, but as soon as you get online they
have to choose another one, and you can use your own nick.

Not exactly. I don't know what IRCNet has, but on the other IRC servers
I've used have services. You can register your channel with the services
on the IRC net, and this will keep it up even when people are away. It
also helps for maintaining order, keeping out troublemakers, and setting
rules. I created #euprogramming on DALnet some time back...unfortunately,
I had to go away for some time, and it sorta died in my abscence.

on DALNet, you can register your nick and then set a kill option so that
nobody else can use it without entering a password. This means NOBODY
can use your nick at any time, whether you are on or not.
