Trying to install e31setup.exe in XP Home SP 3, get error message: "Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 6: the handle is invalid." Any suggestions as to how to correct this problem and successfully install?

What do you mean by "write permission"? How do I get it?

It has all the bugs of Vista, and none of the pleasure.

Removing Service Pack 3 seems rather extreme. I'd rather leave that as a last resort, if all else fails (if then).

If you are not running as an administrator, then try that. Does sond like a write permissions issue. Chris

Hi Then thats an intersting problem, and may need to be fixed for Vista installs. I know that Vista is even more restrictive than XP when it comes to running programs in certain areas (I know you're running XP, but SP3 does have quite a few Vista 'features'). I don't have Vista, and I haven't installed SP3, and what I know is from peripheral reading of other fora (fori / forums?) where installation of games was required with compatability for both XP and Vista. First step would be to know where the install program was trying to create its temporary files, and if it was possible re site them to an executable place, available on both XP and Vista (and 95, 98, and the other in betweenies) I believe there are also settings in the system policy editor that could be tweaked to allow running of programs in what VIsta considers to be unsafe places. Don't ask me what they are though. However, this could also be another argument for a zip only install. Chris
