1. A Beginner's Guide To Euphoria III

Greetings

I've been getting many requests in E-mail lately for a third version of "A
Beginner's Guide To Euphoria, and, after a lot of thinking, I've decided to
start setting a little time for myself and write "A Beginner's Guide To
Euphoria III". My target date of release is October 31st, 2000.

"III" will be a cosmetic update of "II" so you won't see much change in the
actual read text or in the demo programs, other than changes required to
cover Release 2.2. But I do plan to introduce the following in "III|" that
have never been seen in the first two tutorials:

1) A bookmark function so you can resume where you left off reading
previously.

2) A word search in addition to the table of contents seen in "II" so you
can perform a search for a Euphoria term in the tutorial and it will bring
you the page numbers to go to.

3) A "scribble-pad" so you can write and store your own notes in the
tutorial and link these notes to pages or chapters in the main text.

4) The ability to print off a chapter or even the entire tutorial. In
addition, the tutorial text will be stored outside the program so one can
print it off as a hard copy or convert to another format like Word or a
Windows Help Text or HTML/XML.

5) Both keyboard and mouse support for operating the tutorial. I really got
blasted for making "II" a mouse-only driven tutorial. :l

6) The possibility of asking other Euphorians for contributing their own
segments. For example, Robert Craig put his two cents worth in a special
section of the "II" tutorial.

Things the tutorial will not cover:

1) Windows programming. I'm still learning how to program in Windows using
WIN32LIB and doubt I can be proficient enough by the time October 31st rolls
around to create a Windows version. As a result, "III" will be DOS based. I
don't think that is a problem, as Windows 98 and Millenium support DOS
programs and will give me ample time to create a Windows version of "III",
most likely using David Cuny's WIN32LIB.

I don't think there is a need for ABGTE III to do a tutorial on Windows
programming, personally. Wolfgang Fritz has done a good job with his
tutorial so far.

2) DLL calls. Same reason as 1).

Future plans:

Giving the source of the tutorial to a Linux Euphorian so s/he can make a
port of the tutorial in Linux.

Your comments are appreciated :)

Thanks

David Gay
