To All: Recently I visited the Netscape site . They now have a version 4.06 , for Win3.1 . I'm having considerable difficulty obtaining this from their site. Does anyone know of an alternate location , perhaps a ftp site. If so ; please give the complete address. The file may start with cb16 or cc16 . I'm unfamiliar with search engines and doubt the value of these in the present instance. I known that some Euphoria programmers are investigating the topic of browsers , with a view to implementing some features through Euphoria. To Pete Eberlein : Sorry if I still haven't quite got your name right. The spheres that you draw have about two light sources , is there a way to get multiple reflections ; i.e. one sphere being reflected in another .. etc. Are you , occassionally , upgrading asm.e ? re: netscape browser i am using 4.71 downloaded from netscapes own site. cb32d47.exe no credit card needed only some info such as email, mailing address and promise not to give copies away. but i got the 128 bit encryption version, it may not be needed for general version. version 6 is due out soon, version 5 skipped. all i heard is it is 1/2 the size. also the browser has been available on cd that comes with some british computer magazines. PC USER or PC FORMAT or another magazine called Maximum pc. good luck rudy

This url will prolly wrap in your browser, just reassemble it or goto http://www.securiteam.com and find the netscape article. thanks for the message about smartdownload. i wasn't using it but one time. i had heard something but not much facts. re: version 4.02 i had been using it when i got a message from my financial instituion that the security encryption certificates expired at 12/31/1999 11:59 p.m. so it may have been deleted off netscapes site. so an upgrade was required, i went to version 4.71. 16mb download approximately the time was 2 1/2 hours with a 33kb modem. i have since upgraded my system from a dx4 to k7 550mhz 56kb modem so the speed should be better(?). i currently implementing the use of an email program called Poco. i will use it to extract data from automatic emails or subcribed to emails. also can use it to send auto emails in response to emails with certain keywords in the message. it has a pretty good scripting language . rudy

This sounds promising , I'd still prefer a DOS based browser as less resources are required and there's less intervening software to contend with. I'm assuming cb32d47.exe is for 32-bit Windows , I shall have a look at Netscapes site just to make certain Arachne , now have v1.64 , that might be comparable with 4.71 , though not readily available ; this runs from DOS or LINUX. ASPack can be found @ http://www.aspack.com Much like RDS uses NV / UPX to decrease the size of Euphoria made executables. If you are unfamiliar with search engines, perhaps you'll be limiting yourself to the usual and most popular. Perhaps you should try www.northernlight.com and www.alltheweb.com. Good fast download sites I frequently visit: www.tucows.com, www.zdnet.com, www.download.com. They all have good internal searches. A very complete ftp site: garbo.uwasa.fi. btw, there's a 16-bit Netscape 4.08 now (at least zdnet has it). Gerardo E. good evening, i had found a program called 'irover' which gives a user a choice from quite a few search engines via a drop down list. it also eliminates the pagination of your hits, you can even choose 1000 hits if that many are needed. http://www.webattack.com/ i believe this is where i remember getting it from or maybe www.moochers.com. i had found both websites in the same time frame. rudy

I do tend to use yahoo , as a search engine, at the moment ; I'm unfamiliar with northernlight and alltheweb. I'm always looking for good ftp sites , this browser is quite good at downloading files , there might even be a more recent version. I asked a sysop at a local BBS to locate the WIN 3.xx version of Netscape 4.08 ; he managed this , I d/l'ed this awhile ago , only to discover that I needn't more disk space and to re-install my WIN 3.xx , which may require an updated video driver to function adequately with Net 4.08 [16-bit] . Arachne 1.65 may be out there somewhere as a free download , pity I wasn't able to get the 32-bit , dos Watcom compiler for C/C++ . When I do a search through yahoo , when the traffic isn't to heavy, the result almost seems to be instantaneous ; perhaps the local ISP caches a lot of the pages from their site. If you are searching for a specific FTP file the fastest search to use is here: http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/?form=medium

I don't see much of the page layout with this browser , most of the time I turnoff the graphics content completely and selectively d/l to a particular directory ; capturing the *.htm pages and associated images that I'm interested in for offline viewing with the html 4.0 capabilities of arachne 1.40b. Brandariz My Windows 3.xx isn't quite up to this , though the 16-bit netscape 4.08 may eventually function , perhaps , erratically ; with some coaxing. This browser , Netscape, runs from 16-bit DOS , there was a website for this , however I can't get any response from them at netscape.net , I think. Seems that once you connect with the most useful search engine you can locate most anything in the world , as if this was just an extension of your own file directories ; furthermore the access times can appear to be the same as if you were looking at your own local directories. This may sound common place to you , however I recall trying to use an rs-232 link for inter-computer communication , quite a few years ago now , and was annoyed at how slow the link was ; the other computer was on the same campus. I'm not keen on museum pieces either , just that some things , like 32-bit compilers and standards , like ANSI , take so long to develop into useful tools. ge>__________________________________________________ ge>Do You Yahoo!? ge>Talk to your friends online with Yahoo!
