I know this is a rather old message I'm responding to but I
thought I'd leave a few coments on the board since I'm involved
in the creation of an RPG myself.

I must say the more I learn about RPGs the more I understand
that the label "Role Playing Game" is a VERY BROAD category.
I'll assume that your RPG is one that will manage player
statistics, skills, weapons, and armor, since most modern
RPGs do. But even so there are hundreds of vastly different
ways to implement it. Even assuming you are going to make it
a graphical game, that alone is a part that has several
possibilities. Are you going to make it 3D? isometric? Top-down?
side-scroller? Is it more skill oriented? What skills will apply?
Will the player's main statistics increase (like diablo) or just
skills? The role playing genre has been succesfully merged with
several other genres: first-person-3D, arcade, adventure (the classic),
strategy (Rage of Mages). You need to consider how the player will
control his/her character(s): mouse? keyboard? joystick? any
combination? Will your game be turn-based, or realtime, or both?

These are just a few things to considder. If you have any
specific questions feel free to ask me and I will answer to the
best of my ability. :)

later,
Lewis Townsend

4. Re: i'm new to this... Can someone help me with Rpg?

In response to Keroltarr,

Well, i'm sorry for sounding a little il-rashional, but i did explain that my
game would be Graphical, if possible for my skill...
And some other things i didn't meantion... This will acually be the second
game in the series that i'm making. (call Final Star) (this being Final Star
II)
It will be Battle Turned Based, and it will be very similar to the Final
Fantasy Line of RPG's...
i have two websites... The first one will talk about my current game Final
Star I...

and this second one will be hosting both Final Star I and Final Star II once
i finish work on it...

www.netcolony.com/gaming/aetheorraent/index.html

and yes, i have not yet finished Final Star I... I thought i'd get started on
the plot and graphical development for Final Star II, while i work on Final
Star I, becuase of how you will sometimes wear out the old plot, and will
want to work on a new one.

        ~later~
