I'm new here (new to Euphoria, that is). I'm not new to computers, 35 years in the business before retiring in the early 1990s, but lately I've found that I'm out in left field as far as recent developments are concerned. I just signed up to the Listserv, and found a bunch of messages on my first day. A couple of them had to do with something called RPG. To me, RPG refers to a software package distributed by IBM a long time ago. The initials stood for Report Program Generator, and the software would develop the format used by other programs to print their output. Now RPG is apparently some kind of game. I'm really confused. Oops, just got some more mail, explaining what RPG means. Role Playing Game. Okay, thanks, whoever sent that in. But this alphabet soup is really overwhelming. But BTW (you see, I'm not totally ignorant of the new cyber-initials), the usual abbreviation for Reverse Polish Notation is RPN, not RPL. RPN is best known for its use by Hewlett-Packard in its calculators. Wallace Riley wryly at mindspring.com

I'm really confused. It's both. Report Program Generator (still available as a compiler language on the IBM AS/400 and RS/6000 family as RPG/400) and Role Playing Game both use the intials RPG. :) David Gay "A Beginner's Guide To Euphoria" http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Vista/4346
