I saw the picture but didn't think much of it because it was just some
landscaping.
Now, tell me you drew it with a EUPHORIA program at blazing speed on
your Pentium-90, and then I'll say "WOWIE!!!"

Finally! Just kiddin'. This should be a demonstration of my appreciation
of your lessons. :)
Later!

Yes it was cool. How did you create that.
Did you create a program to help create that.
Did it take long for the program to create it.
Would it have helped to have faster screen routines?

It WAS drawn with a Euphoria program. The draw time was 2.19 seconds on
my P-166. I think it's pretty cool.

Now that I'm conscious again (I fainted), let me ask you this:
Was the landscape "randomly" drawn... for instance, is there a fractal
generator working behind that?
Also, I was wondering if anybody here had any "continent creator"
software. When I owned my Commodore 64 I had a game called "Seven Cities
of Gold," and it would randomly generate a whole planet, including
continents, etc. I think it realistically generated landmasses, possibly
taking into account plate tektonic theories, etc.
If you know of anything like this, please lemme know.
Thanks!

yes. I have a Math degree, emphasis in Fractal Geometry. The landscape
is a random midpoint displacement fractal, and yes, it's statistically
self-similar =)

Programs that do that realistically are very expensive. I have a nifty
one I spent $1000 on. I wrote a program to create whole planets and visit
them in CGA about 13 years ago.

It also loads USGS and VistaPro DEM files. I may put up a "Real"
landscape later, after Parts 2 and 3, if anyone is interested.

It was defenitly COOL! Was it done with Euphoria? Is it fast?

Oh. Cool. :)

Well, Seven Cities of Gold was only $19.95 (or so), and it generated
whole land masses. It can't be that difficult.
Now, I'm not talking about mapping each square foot of the continent. I
just want it to say, "Here's where the mountains are, here's some
valley, a desert over here, and some dessert right there on the table."
Okay, forget about the dessert part.
Got it? Now, where do I get it?
Mr. Packard, when are we going to get to start exploring your virtual
planets (see SimCity 3000).
Later!
