1. Credit Card Security
I'd like to state what I know about the security of
credit card orders. i.e. registering Euphoria via the Web.
Obviously I'm very biased here, but I'll state the
facts as I see them.
1. If you use the secure order form page then your Netscape
or Microsoft Web browser will collect the credit card
information that you type, and will encrypt it using a
very strong encryption algorithm, before sending it across
the Net to PsL. It may be possible to illegally intercept and
unencrypt your information, but it would probably take a very smart
person many *years* of time on a supercomputer to do it.
2. PsL has to pay a fee to be an authenticated secure site.
Not just anyone can set themselves up this way.
3. *Any* time you use your credit card, some person gets to see your
credit card number. There's always a small risk. Probably several
people at the restaurant that you visited recently have access
your number and signature. If thieves break into that restaurant,
they could scoop up hundreds of credit card receipts, including yours.=
In this case, only PsL gets to see the
number, not RDS. If PsL were ever accused of credit card fraud
it could put them out of business very quickly. They are so careful
that in a couple of cases they rejected an order for Euphoria
just because of a very innocent mistake in the supplied information.
In each case RDS had to contact the person to get the situation
cleared up. PsL only keeps about $5.00 from each order, so they'll
quickly reject a suspicious order rather than risk their reputation.
4. You can always FAX the required information to PsL,
or you can call them and talk to a nice young woman
with a Texas accent.
Or, you can mail a check or money order to RDS.
Or you can use CompuServe's GO SWREG facility.
5. We started to allow credit card orders via the Web
back in October 1996. This route quickly became the most
popular way to register Euphoria. No one who registered
via the Web (or via FAX or phone) has ever told us that
they later had any abuse of their credit card.
