I think this is, in fact, a "feature", because using DOS under Windows,
dir() checks *both* the long filenames and the short ones generated for DOS
usage.

This is a bug in Widows itself (hasn't been fixed as of Windows XP). This
bug has bitten me in VB programming at work. Perhaps MS would allege it is a
feature.
