I can set up a MailMan list on my server. I have a VPS (Virtual Private Server), which is like a dedicated server, so I can do with it what I like. I don't think this list would be a strain on it, but maybe the volume is larger than I would think. Can you estimate the bandwidth required per month?

Thanks for the offer, but I set up a MailMan list on my server a while back and found it was not compatible with what I'm doing with ListFilter. This list sends out over 1Mb per month times about 400 people, but I think it's not the raw number of bytes that's the problem. It's the number of e-mail messages that worries ISPs. I plan to press ahead with a Euphoria-written message board. It won't be hard to get a basic system working. We can still use Topica for mail delivery for those who can stand the ads, and we can receive posts via Topica, but I'd like to become independent of Topica (or any other external mailing list). I suspect Topica is not doing too well financially. Those who hate the ads can currently view the list here: http://lists.topica.com/lists/EUforum/read and anyone, subscribed or not, can post a message as Guest here: http://www.rapideuphoria.com/listserv.htm so there's no need to look at all those inserted ads.
