1. Difficulties writing a program that can actually work in a comm

I've been trying for some time now to get a program that would let me dial up a text service to work. Every time I tested it however, it successfully dialed the number, I got the intro screen It got to the point (1 to login, q to quit) or something like that. And then, it won't take any thing I type in to log on. It just sits there, and the service is apparently sending back "beeps" (char code 7 I think) to my system so I can't actually get anywhere. I use this account on a more or less regular basis by a commercial program and it runs smoothly. Any one have a clue why it won't progress beyond that point? Because I'm really stumped and serial communications is not exactly an area I have a lot of experience programming. Thanks in advance, - Robert McDougal PS: If anyone's interested, I'm planning on comparing my longhand divison routine out and see how it compares to the built in function.
