1. I am retired

Hi, Guys,

I have just withdrawn, officially, from the rat race. I am now
retired. Much poorer, little confused, but I hope happier and most
importantly still alive.

So, please, do not send any more abuse to my old address at the
Institute (j.babor at gns.cri.nz), I will not be able to enjoy it. I
shall keep the mailbox open for several months longer, just in case,
but I'll be checking it infrequently, perhaps no more than once a
week.

But don't despair. I do not think I'll pester you any more than in the
past. I have several other, more interesting hobbies, and a bunch of
grandchildren to entertain. Also my only remaining friend Hlupak (a
village idiot in Czech), a senile cat , demands more attention.

wowie! i didn't realize you were that old, although your ornery disposition
should have clued me in, no? Or maybe you guys just retire younger than we
do...? smile

Amen! (the happier and alive part, i mean)

jiri, your insights, help, and advice (oh, and code!) are what make your
rude attitude tolerable. As long as you pepper your pestering with gems of
wisdom, I'm sure we won't mind. Hey! You might even be able to post more
stuff than the windows contingent!

If I retired, I would spend the next several days completing my game
project (in between, of course, taking care of my wunderkind children).
Maybe I should retire! if only temporarily. Must be nice. Hope you saved up
some dough!

how sweet! I don't know if I should fear for the cat or consider that maybe
there's a little bit of love down deep in jiri's heart... blink

Jiri, you got that widgets v2.0 finished?! It needs to be real speedy.

Thanks!

Err, then how will you afford that second harddrive?

Whew, that's good, cause i couldn't keep up with you when you didn't have
any time!

Kats can be good people.

Sorry, Kat. As sporadic observer only of the demise of your culture
I gained obviously mistaken impression 'guys' were sufficiently gender
neutral and thus safe to be fed even to kats.

Well, I won't. But with so much time on my hands I can always
reconstruct everything, can I not? :)

Jeez, Leviathan, you must be living on a different planet, or in a
parallel universe that has only lousy communications with mine. What
on earth are you talking about, have I missed anything? Do you mean
the translator? Have you ever seen it used in anger? What else is
there to celebrate?

We are witnessing a decline, man, no matter what spin you care to put
on it. Many people, good people, departed. Don't tell me, Pete,
Jacques, Chris, Jeff, Colin, Ralf and many others left, or virtually
left, because they could not hack the pace! Even David Cuny is reduced
to less than a short note a day on average. In fact without Thomas and
Derek's announcements of announcements of changes to version 0.54 and
Judith's understandable struggles to emulate unseen VB, we would not
have a list.

>From my perspective, David's Py has been just about the only
significant new development in the last twelve months or more. And
even that has been denied entry to the Official pages, because, I am
told, Robert perceives it not as a challenge, but as a threat. (How am
I doing, Everett?)

I must also mention Ray's Allegro. That is an exciting promise. I hope
Ray really finishes it. But then again, I will not probably be able to
enjoy it terribly much. Not if Robert insists on treating 'dos
programmers only', as he so aptly put it, as second rate citizens.
