For info on modems take a look at:

    http://www.stokely.com/unix.serial.port.resources/index.html

This has a strong bias toward UNIX but I think alot of the modem related
information will be of use.

As for TAPI take a look at:

    http://www.rescript.fsnet.co.uk/unixdoc/paging/index.htm

This has some links to useful stuff on alpha-numeric paging.  I used this
to create a paging script on a UNIX box on my last company assignment.  Ok
so it's a UNIX bias but it may be a starting point.

Finally a web search on:

    telocator

will turn up lots of stuff - as with any search engine some is relevant,
much is "noise".
