I feel that I want post three comments to the discussion till now:

1. I agree that in some (underdeveloped ?) countries $38 are more money then in
UDA or e.g. Germany. In India a normal person earn's $20 a month. But ... is it
Rob's fault ? Shall he ask for the passport first at registering ? I think we
shouldn't hang that light to high, cause there is a usable free version there.

2. I agree that patents, copyrights are a "rest from the dark ages" where
bookprinting was
only allowed to people by the gouverment. As the "thinkings" are free, in the
   "New century" that
comes now, the "patents" and the "copyrights" will fall ... maybe in 50 or
   100 years ...

3. But we cannot force Rob as a "one-person company" to be the first do do that.
These things will
change by evolution. Napster & Co will "storm the Bastille" not in one day
   ....

4. Things change slowly as they change in the mind of people.
First people must get an common agreement about the Freedom of "unmaterial
   things".
Secondly people must get an common agreement that there is nothing like
   "spiritual ownership".
Thirdly people will find out that these things can be duplicated (unlike
   bread) for "common wealth".

5. Some day, people will remember that in nature you cannot own an idea.
Ok, so long you do not tell anyone about smile. The same applies for
(concepts, ideas, words etc.). That a spoken words and ideas are like birds
   ...
once they are free you should not try hold them smile. That process is running
   and the last
rest from the "book-printing right" will fall ... with time.

6. The point after all is, IF that time comes in 50 or 100 years and the
"book-printing rights"
fall, then Rob (& the Authors) will already have found another
way to get donated for his work. The question is not IF someone gets "paid"
   for his work,
this will always be the case as the market WANTS people who do that work.
He will EVER get paid. The question is "HOW". How can an artist get paid ?
How can an author get paid directly ?
We will have to think about modern, Intenet-Infrastructures that enable at
    last A BETTER income
    for the Authors etc.
More money then they get with the current system. Internet has not ONLY RISKS
   (Napster etc.)
it has (like everything in life) also chances.

Thanks for reading, other opinions are welcome and accepted

Gee Irv
Ralf posts a piece suggesting that maybe the kind of market we have for
software and music isn't such a good idea. I think he's right. No big deal.

But where do you get all this stuff about letting murderers go free? Are you
saying there is no grey area? That there's no room for discussion or
disagreement? Just black and white - good and bad. If you use software that
you haven't paid for you're as bad as a murderer?

Seems a little off balance to me - but maybe I missed something.

Martin
